'It hurts not picking up a result' - Davies, Eriksen and Lloris react to derby loss
19 November 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Ben Davies' first words outside the dressing room at Arsenal said all that was needed to say.
"It's a horrible feeling," said the defender after our 2-0 loss at the Emirates. "It wasn’t our best performance and we know that. It’s hurting us not picking up a result."
Quickfire goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez just before half-time left us with a mountain to climb.
We pinned Arsenal back for long periods in the second half without creating too many clear-cut chances. Harry Kane's sight of goal was blocked by Mustafi, Petr Cech saved from Eric Dier and Heung-Min Son was off target with two late efforts.
Here's what Ben, Christian Eriksen and skipper Hugo Lloris had to say afterwards...

On the game...
"It was difficult to get going out there. We didn’t look too fluid compared to the way we can play. We know we can do so much better than that. When their goal came it was a bit of a sucker punch and to concede another before half-time was a bit sloppy and killed us. We were confident in ourselves coming here. We were up for a big game and ready for the challenge but we didn’t put our best foot forward and that’s the most disappointing thing."
On what was being said in the dressing room...
"There hasn’t been too much chat. It’s just disappointment in there at the moment and it’s about getting back into training tomorrow, reflecting on what’s happened, reflecting on the performance, learning lessons and going again."
On responding against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League...
"It’s still going to hurt but if we can put in a good performance and pick up a win it might ease the pain a bit. We’ve got to look back on this but not dwell on it and focus on going again."

On his week - inspiring Denmark to a place in the World Cup but now losing the derby...
"It’s been a crazy week. Of course, Tuesday was insane but football comes around quickly and you have to compete in every game and today it’s a low. It’s a big hit for us. I went into the game feeling confident, feeling fit. It didn’t go our way. We tried our best to come back and try to create something but they took their goals and it was tough after that. The last pass, the last shot, it just wasn’t there today."
Is a quick return to action against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday a positive?
"We need to get back on track. There are so many games and it’s about how we come back after this defeat. We have the mentality to do that."

On the performance...
"I’m not disappointed with the spirit of the team because the spirit was great. We showed character and even at 2-0 down we kept playing, kept fighting and kept face. We missed something in the last third and the two goals...that’s football and it can happen. The goals have a big impact in a game of this level."
"I’m disappointed for the team and for our fans who came here. We were unbeaten here for three years with three draws and that’s football, we need to stay proud, keep our chin up and carry on because the league is not about one game, there are so many games ahead. From now, it’s important to have a good run, it’s possible and we need to do that in the next period."
