The latest in our series introducing the new members of our medical team at Spurs - next up, Alex Court...

Name: Alex Court.
Age: 31.

What is your background in your profession and within sport?

I went to university in America, did my degree out there and played basketball with a scholarship. I graduated, came back and as part of my degree I worked at the British Olympic Medical Centre and it was great to work with elite athletes. That gave me a taste of what I wanted. I worked in Northampton and then got the opportunity to work at Harrods in health-related fitness. The chairman Mr Al Fayed then bought Fulham Football Club so I created a niche for myself at Fulham. I'd been at Fulham for eight seasons. I started off at the Academy and looking after the younger players and evolved my position, developed it and I'd been head strengthening and conditioning coach for last year and the start of this season.

What will your role here entail?

Mainly rehabilitation, looking after the injured players and doing a lot of preventative rehab work. All the rehabilitation is in close network with the rest of the medical team and general strengthening and conditioning. I'll hopefully be able to implement components that will help the boys the best they can be. That’s my job.

How have you settled in?

Great. It's weird because I spent eight years at Fulham and knew some players for eight years. I had great relationships with the lads at Fulham and it was sad to leave but it's a great opportunity at Spurs. I know Sean Davis well, I've known him for eight years and it's nice to have a few familiar faces around.

Have you worked with Dean Kenneally before?
No, but he's fantastic. I've been with him for a few days but the way he is manually with the players, his skills are fantastic and his experience with the Olympics will make the boys the best they can be. It's exciting to work with people with that skill level.

It's a new management team on the football side, a new team on the pitch and now a new medical team. Is that sense of a new team how it feels?
Yes. I know Geoff Scott (physio) and Charlotte (Dr Charlotte Cowie) from Fulham but to work with Dean, Amanda and Dr Curtin is great. We all get on well and we're there as a team. We need to be an efficient team to make the boys an efficient team.

Was it always going to be sport for you?

Yes. I played sport at elite level as well - basketball for England - so I'm used to performing at the best you can be. I wanted to work in sport and there is nothing better on the rehab side than if there is a player injured and you get them back. How rewarding is that?
