George Graham expressed his disappointment at the White Hart Lane boo boys after Saturday’s win against Derby County.
Two goals from Oyvind Leonhardsen and one from Stephen Carr put the Premiership’s bottom side to the sword.
But it wasn’t all plain sailing — Rams forced their way back into the game to make it 1-1 after our storming start and it was then that the boos started to ring out. Thankfully Carr’s fine strike just before the break changed the mood and Leonhardsen’s goal two minutes into the second half put the issue beyond doubt.
Boss George said: “For the first 25 minutes it was a good as we’ve played this season. Some of the quality of the football was top, top drawer and with a bit better finishing the game could have been over.
“The football and movement was excellent and that’s what we’re aiming to do over a longer period rather than just the first 25 minutes.
“Derby came back for 10 minutes, we gave a soft goal away and then the crowd started. I felt a bit sorry for the players because I thought they did very well.
“The boys were a bit disappointed in the way the crowd never got behind them when they needed them.
“There is a certain section here because we’re under-achieving. We’re all agreed to that but they are very quick to criticise.
“I don’t mind taking it but on the pitch I want them behind the team. I want them to lift the team whereas the team are lifting themselves.
“All we can do is keep winning. I don’t think it’s a secret that there have been some games away from home this season we should have done better in result-wise.
“We know we should have picked up more points but you get that quality of football in the first half-hour, they get an equaliser and suddenly a certain section lifts the rest of the crowd to criticise. I feel sorry for the players.
“Look at their crowd. There was no criticism from their fans.
“It’s a bit of a shame because when you go to certain grounds up north the crowd lift the team. Down here it seems you have to lift the fans.”
