Darren Bent was delighted with the reception he received from his new fans at the Lane on Saturday.

Darren, along with fellow close-season acquisitions Gareth Bale, Younes Kaboul and Kevin-Prince Boateng, was introduced to fans on the pitch before kick-off against Torino – and they were greeted with a standing ovation.

The striker, who signed from Charlton in June, then came off the bench in the second half to join Kaboul in helping us to a 2-0 victory over the Italians.

Young Frenchman Adel Taarabt also made his first White Hart Lane appearance as a substitute since making his move from Lens permanent.

But Darren was blown away by his new-found popularity in north London, having hit five goals overall during pre-season.

He said: “The reception I got from home fans was great. I’m used to them booing me from when I’ve come here before with Charlton! But to get a good reception was brilliant, and I hope to repay the fans with some goals in the coming season.

“It’s always nice to hit the net in pre-season because it can only breed confidence, and now I can’t wait for the proper stuff to get started.”
