Club launches new scheme to reignite the careers of local over 50s

Tottenham Hotspur has launched a new project, Reignite, which combines physical activity sessions with employment advice to help local unemployed people find work.
Targeting job seekers aged over 50 living in the local area, the programme will help participants to reignite their careers and work skills while encouraging more healthy, active lifestyles.
Evidence suggests that older job seekers are more likely to claim health or care-related benefits, reducing their ability and availability to work. The new scheme will aim to support 100 people in the Club’s communities each year.
Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Employment and Skills team will work with participants to build confidence and gain new skills as well as providing a platform to network and open doors to employment opportunities within the area.
Individuals on the programme will be offered tailored provision to help them re-engage into work, social activities and improved health and wellbeing.
The Club will work closely with local and national employers to create opportunities for Reignite participants, bringing a new dimension to their workforce.
Sessions are delivered in community venues including sports centres, libraries and the 639 Centre on Tottenham High Road.
Elaine Patterson, aged 50 from Tottenham, was one of the first participants to join Reignite. Elaine said: “The programme has exceeded my expectations. When I joined I was unemployed, lacked confidence, had very low self-esteem and hadn’t exercised for years.
“I spent most of my days either sleeping, applying for jobs and generally lacking motivation to do anything constructive.
"After 10 weeks of working with the Foundation coaches, I’ve completely turned a corner. I’m more confident, I eat healthier, and as a result of incorporating regular exercise into my daily routine, I have more stamina and a better mental wellbeing.
“I haven’t secured a job just yet but I know I will do soon because I have the confidence, drive and determination to succeed, and the continued one-to-one support from the Foundation.
“I’d definitely encourage people in Haringey who are struggling to find a job and aged over 50 to sign up to Reignite.”

“Participants can get support on refreshing skills, identifying core transferable skills, and work with our coaches to build confidence to ultimately help them find a job.
“Our first cohort of participants are already seeing positive changes as a result of Reignite, which is extremely encouraging.
“We look forward to helping more over 50s in the local community through this unique programme."
