Three points were all-important for Mauricio Pochettino who described Monday night's clash against Watford as ‘must-win’ after securing a 2-0 victory in the Premier League at Wembley.

Dele Alli tucked home his 14th goal of the season (all competitions) on 16 minutes but the visitors proved a threat in the first half and Hugo Lloris needed to be at his best to keep out Andre Gray and Richarlison. He then darted out of his box to win a 50-50 with Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Harry Kane converted a crucial second goal just three minutes into the second half and we had spells and chances to add to that scoreline.

Jan Vertonghen struck the post and Harry couldn’t turn home the rebound and Harry then had a goal ruled out for offside. Moussa Sissoko later blasted over from close range but we kept it locked at the back to secure the 2-0 win and restore our five-point lead over Chelsea in fifth and move a point behind third-placed Liverpool.

“It’s a massive win,” said Mauricio. “It keeps us in a very good position in the top four, fantastic. I'm happy.

“Maybe it wasn't a great performance but the most important thing was to be competitive and win the three points.

“After the disappointment of the FA Cup semi-final it was difficult, we started a little sloppy and it's never easy to play against a team with good players and a team that plays with freedom.

“In the end, I’m very pleased for Hugo with some actions that showed his real quality and why he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“For us, it was a must-win game. The most important thing was to win the three points. The objective and challenge is to finish in the top four.”
