Spurs 2-0 Huddersfield - Mauricio's reaction

Sat 03 March 2018, 18:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Patience and quality were two words on Mauricio Pochettino’s mind as he mulled over our latest win at Wembley on Saturday.

Goals either side of half-time from Heung-Min Son gave us a 2-0 victory over a Huddersfield Town side that defended in numbers and looked to restrict our openings at the national stadium.

Thankfully, Sonny was clinical when it mattered, carrying the ball past Jonas Lossl to open the scoring before nodding in Harry Kane’s bouncing cross after the break, while the team fashioned a couple more chances too as we extended our unbeaten run into a 17th game and kept up our challenge for a place in the upper reaches of the Premier League table come the end of the season.

Asked whether it can be frustrating to try to break down a packed defence like Huddersfield’s, Mauricio replied: “No, you need to accept that of course they are going to play in the way that they want and it’s important to try to find a way to break down the opponents.

“I think the team showed great patience and quality. I feel so happy, very pleased. The performance was good and I’m happy because the three points help us to be in a very good position in the table. It’s so important because if we want to have the possibility until the end of the season to fight for the top four, I think this result is so important today.”

Son’s brace was his second of the week after he also netted twice in the 6-1 thumping of Rochdale in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

“I’m very happy for him,” confirmed the manager. “He scored twice, twice on Wednesday too, his contribution was perfect and he helped the team to achieve the things that we want. We are very pleased for his performance.

“The team was very patient, I think we showed great quality and we are so happy because in the end now we are going to think only about preparing for the game against Juventus (in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday).”
