Our fastest goals in the Premier League era

Thu 01 February 2018, 14:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen narrowly missed out on a Premier League and Spurs goal record double after his lightning strike against Manchester United.

The Danish playmaker hit the net with his first touch as we scored directly from kick-off – his goal timed at 10.5 seconds.

That was half-a-second behind Ledley King’s all-time Premier League record strike of 10 seconds at Bradford in 2001 and a fraction behind Alan Shearer’s effort for Newcastle against City in 2003.

Christian joins six players to have scored inside a minute for us in the Premier League, including team-mate Harry Kane, who has done it twice.

After Ledley’s record-breaking goal in December, 2000, our former Club Historian Andy Porter, who sadly passed away in 2014, wrote the following for our official 2001-02 handbook...

Ledley King’s goal after 10 seconds at Bradford City on 9 December rates as the fastest-ever in the Premier League and probably the quickest by any Spurs player. Others credited with goals in the opening 30 seconds include Peter Taylor against Sunderland at White Hart Lane on 22 April 1978 - variously timed at 25 to 28 seconds - and Foster Hedley for our reserve team against The Army on 5 March 1934.  This was reckoned at the time to be the fastest goal ever at White Hart Lane. Meanwhile, Bill Nicholson’s debut goal for England against Portugal at Goodison Park on 19 May 1951 has been quoted between 19 and 30 seconds.
