Club's Training Centre opens its doors to Youth Leadership Programme

Our Training Centre has today (Friday 23 February) hosted Enfield Council’s Youth Leadership Programme, a course designed improve the leadership skills of young people through the power of sport.

The programme, delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, Enfield PE Team and Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, aims to upskill teenagers in practical coaching methods, philosophy and ethics, giving them the confidence to become role models and leaders in their schools.

Students from Edmonton County School and Ark John Keats School attended the session and had the opportunity to use the Training Centre’s world-class facilities, taking part in a football coaching session delivered by the Club’s Schools Development Coach, Frank Kain. The students also learned how to officiate Tri-Golf, a mini golf activity aimed at primary school children, delivered by Dan Fickling, Head Professional at Crews Hill Golf Club.

The event forms part of the Section 106 Partnership, launched in June, 2010, by Enfield Council, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and Tottenham Hotspur. The partnership has highlighted the Club’s £2.3m commitment to community sport and physical activity over 10 years to the Borough in which the Training Centre resides.

Nikki Kelly, Acting Chief Executive of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “It is important for us to open our doors to local school children to help them learn and develop their leadership skills while giving them a memorable time at our Training Centre.”

Paula Felgate, Enfield PE Team Manager, said: “Having the opportunity to use Tottenham Hotspur’s world-class training facilities to deliver the Youth Leadership Programme in Enfield is hugely beneficial to the students. Enfield Council is delighted to be working with Tottenham Hotspur to deliver sport and community programmes like these which benefit the lives of people within the local community.”

Mathew Hall, student at Edmonton County School, said: “Coming to the Training Centre today to learn about the importance of coaching has been a fantastic experience. Before today I didn’t have the confidence to speak in front of others. Today’s course has really helped me to improve my leadership skills and take them back to my school.”
