Spurs Ladies - treble-winners!

Spurs Ladies have completed the double in the FA Women's Premier League - and a treble for the season.

Karen Hills' all-conquering squad clinched the League Cup - competed for by both North and South divisions of the FAWPL - to add to their FAWPL South title after a penalty shoot-out success against Charlton at Stevenage FC on Sunday. The Boux Avenue Cup makes up the treble.

Goalkeeper Toni-Anne Wayne was the hero with two saves in the shoot-out after it ended goalless at the Lamex Stadium. Renee Hector, Sophie Mclean, Eartha Pond and Katie O'Leary, back after over eight months out through injury, slotted home their penalties.

"The girls have been amazing all season," said Katie. "I've watched on and admired what they've done all season and to be able to come back after eight-and-a-half months out (injured) and be involved...it wasn't easy, Charlton took us all the way and it was nail-biting, but Toni and the coaches did their work. I'm so glad!"

Three is the magic number for Spurs Ladies after a dramatic 4-3 FA Women’s Premier League Cup Final penalty shoot-out triumph - in which goalkeeper Toni-Anne Wayne saved two - saw The Lilywhites to glory following a goalless 120 minutes against rivals, Charlton Athletic.

Spurs started well. Wendy Martin played across to Ronnell Humes just inside the area, whose strike across goal was cleared off the line by Grace Coombs after three minutes.

Kit Graham looked for a response forcing Wayne to tip away her free-kick, Avilla Bergin sent the rebound back towards goal and was denied on the line by Lucia Leon.

Jenna Schillaci’s in-swinging free-kick was punched towards Humes, whose lob went over. Leah Rawle exchanged with Bianca Baptiste, whose strike hit the side-netting. Bergin countered dinking through to Graham making the run in behind, but Wayne was quick off her line to boot clear.

Martin flicked-on Schillaci’s deep pass for Baptiste to latch on, placing inches wide across goal. Rawle lobbed into Maya Vio, whose delightful first-time swerve found Baptiste to curl inches wide.

Sophie Mclean burst to the edge only for Rosey Sullivan to turn her strike past the post. Humes controlled with patience out right, floated her cross towards Martin for Coombs to clear off the line.

Carbon-copy momentum followed the restart. Baptiste played Mclean through who crossed to Humes, whose effort was tipped away on the stretch at the near-post.

Baptiste recycled with Leon, her cross towards Martin saw Daisy Monaghan clear off the line. Josie Green shimmied through the middle seeing her 25-yard effort patted down by Alex Baker. Graham countered finding Kim Dixon who looked for Bergin six-yards out, but Renee Hector recovered. Green dropped her pass inside the six-yard which evaded Humes and Baptiste.

Green sprayed delightfully out to Humes, whose cross was taken off the head of Martin by Baker. Leon slid Baptiste away, who forced Coombs to guide inadvertently onto her own post.

Mclean popped into Baptiste coming in off the right who curled just wide of the top right. Green set-up Vio, her strike was blocked towards Leon who fired over. Mclean’s piledriver evaded the upright, Vio rolled to Baptiste whose cross was flicked-on by Nikita Whinnett towards Martin, who volleyed over.

Schillaci’s corner was headed over by Hector in injury time. Baptiste crashed her shot off the inside of the post meeting Whinnett’s overhead lay-off in extra-time. Baptiste struck towards the near-post forcing Baker to save.

Hector headed over from Schillaci’s corner, who then zipped her free-kick inches past the post with the last kick off the game.

Into the shoot-out. Hector, Wayne’s stop from Dixon and Mclean ensured a 2-0 lead. Ruby Southgate scored for 2-1 - despite Wayne getting a leg to the ball - as Baker denied Martin. Graham made it 2-2, Eartha Pond made it 3-2. Charlotte Lee scored for 3-3. Katie O’Leary emphatically saw eight-and-a-half-months of an injury-hit season put behind her for 4-3.

Coombs needed to score to send Charlton into sudden death, but she was denied by an inspired Wayne to complete the treble.
