Spurs Ladies sign top WSL striker Sarah Wiltshire

Spurs Ladies have signed one of the top strikers in Women's Super League 2 as they prepare for their first season at that level.

Sarah Wiltshire has joined the club from Yeovil Ladies.

Hertfordshire-born Sarah - a Spurs fan - scored 27 goals in 45 WSL games for Yeovil and was heading for top goalscorer status in WSL2 in 2016 when she took a break from the game to have a baby.

Neverthless, her 11 goals in 12 games helped Yeovil to the title and promotion into WSL1 for 2017 and having returned just 11 weeks after giving birth, she scored Yeovil's first goal in the top flight at the start of this year's WSL1 Spring Series*.

Sarah, 26, impressed so much during her time at Yeovil that she was signed by WSL1 high-fliers Manchester City in 2015.

She's also a full Welsh international with 31 caps to her name.

Safe to say, it's quite a coup for a Spurs team on the rise. "This is a fantastic signing for us," said manager, Karen Hills. "Sarah has a wealth of experience in the WSL and has a real goalscoring pedigree at this level.

"She was top scorer in WSL2 (until her pregnancy) in 2016, she's quick and a great finisher - she's perfect for us."

Sarah joins a Spurs team on the rise after an incredible 2016-17.

Unbeaten in all competitions until March - a run of 27 matches stopped only by Arsenal in the FA Cup - the team reached three cup finals again and then, in chronological order, won the Boux Avenue Cup, won the FAWPL South title in front of 2,000 fans at White Hart Lane, completed the double by defending the League Cup and finally, the icing on the cake, registered a 3-0 win against Blackburn Rovers in the FAWPL national play-off to secure a place in WSL2.

Sarah said: "Spurs are certainly a club on the up. I've supported Tottenham since I was a little girl, so it means a lot for me to come and play here.

"The team had an amazing time last season and now they are ready for WSL2. It's a competitive league but Spurs have showed they deserve to be at this level, so I'm sure it will be another positive season. I'm hoping to bring a little experience to the team and I'm excited to get going again."

*The WSL's Spring Series bridged the gap between the end of the WSL's 2016 season and 2017-18, when the WSL will run as a winter competition from September-May.
