HOW WE USE TWITTER
Posted 15 September 2012 10:23am
It’s a new season and a new approach for @SpursOfficial on Twitter. So, we wanted to take a moment to answer some of your questions and let you know how we’ll be using Twitter over the coming season.
Firstly, we really appreciate all your Tweets, retweets and replies. We want to build the largest community of Spurs fans on Twitter and we couldn’t do that without your support, so a huge thanks! We hope the information below is useful and gives you an idea of what to expect over the coming season. #COYS
Q: Why is the Club on Twitter?
We see Twitter as a great way of engaging with our fans in order to help bring you closer to the Club and to make sure you hear the official news from the Club first. We want to build the biggest community of Spurs fans on Twitter, so please get your friends to follow @SpursOfficial too!
Q: Who Tweets as @SpursOfficial?
Our communications team helps manage the feed and our Social Media Manager oversees the way we use the channel, working with other areas of the Club to bring you up-to-date news from players, fixture, updates from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and our charity campaigns.
Q: How do I report abusive tweets?
If you are offended by tweets, firstly you should block and report the account that you find abusive. Then you should report any abuse via Twitter, by using their policing process. Follow the instructions here: https://support.twitter.com/forms/abusiveuser. Twitter will then get back to you regarding your report.
If you want to report an illegal tweet then you should contact your local police station and make an official complaint.
Q: Will there be live Twitter updates on matches this season?
Yes, we’ll be Tweeting every first team match live from the stadium and also updating Facebook with scores and HT/FT results. We’ll bring you pre and post-match insight, exclusive photos and lots of other great behind-the-scenes content. We’ll also be looking to test a few other things as well, so keep an eye out.
Q: Why don’t you comment on transfer speculation?
We know fans love to talk about transfers and every aspect of the Club, but we will never Tweet news unless it’s official. @SpursOfficial is the account to follow for up-to-date official news as soon as we have it, so follow us and you’ll get all the facts first.
Q: Why don’t you reply or retweet me?
We get thousands of mentions and requests from fans and we love hearing your views. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to retweet everyone, so please bear with us and don’t be disappointed or stop Tweeting us!
Q: What is Spurs TV? Why do you link to it?
Spurs TV Online is available at part of the Club’s One Hotspur Membership. It is an exclusive channel where we post extended highlights, exclusive pre and post-match player interviews and videos that you can’t watch or find anywhere else. Spurs TV is a great way of watching exclusive, behind the scenes footage.
Q: Is ‘X player’s’ twitter account really them?
There are lots of fake and parody accounts of our players on Twitter. So, we’ve made an official list of players who are on Twitter so you know which accounts are the genuine ones. You can find the list here - http://bit.ly/ParPOB - which we’ll be updating throughout the season. To help you, we’ll use their official Twitter account names when referring to them in our Tweets. The Twitter verified tick is another way of knowing if the player is real or fake too.
Q: Why don’t you post every story that’s on the website on @SpursOfficial
We try to post as much of our content as we can on our Twitter account, but we know that some people prefer we post less and some prefer we post more - it’s a difficult balance to find. Let us know what you would like more or less of and we’ll listen, after all our feed is for you. We check to see what content gets the best reaction, retweets and likes on Facebook, so keep retweeting our content as much as you can. We will also be posting content on Facebook and Twitter that you can only find on those platforms, so the best way to follow us this season is by following us and liking us on our social channels!
Q: Why don’t more players Tweet?
Some of our players love to use Twitter and engage with the fans, but Twitter is not for everyone. We’ll make sure you know when any new players join-up.
Finally, we really appreciate and thank you for all your support over the course of the season.
If you have any questions or suggestions about what we can do more or less of on Twitter we’d love to hear them so tweet us and don’t forget to use #COYS!
