Paul Stalteri

Signed from Werder Bremen for the start of the 2005-06 campaign, the Canadian international slotted seamlessly into a defensive unit in his 33 league starts that season.

He also scored one of the goals of the season in the ill-fated FA Cup defeat at Leicester as he made 35 appearances in total.

Born in Etobicoke, Ontario, Paul played with Bremen's reserves from 1997 to 2000, following his move from Toronto Lynx before netting on his Bundesliga debut against Energie Cottbus in August 2000, and went on to play 150 league games, hitting six goals, before bowing out by helping Bremen into Europe's elite competition for a second consecutive year.

Injury affected Paul during 2006-07, preventing him from regularly competing with Pascal Chimbonda for the right-back slot, but his season did include the memorable winner against West Ham at Upton Park when he netted in the final minute of the 4-3 victory.

He again struggled to nail down a regular place in 2007-08, not least after the arrival of Alan Hutton and ended the season on loan at Fulham, where he helped the Cottagers escape from relegation. He made seven appearances for us.
