After a month of planning, the Spurs family in Malaysia got together to show their love for the club and cheer the team on to an impressive 4-1 victory against Sunderland at White Hart Lane. The whole day included a futsal tournament, a futsal clinic for kids, a crossbar challenge and a penalty shootout.
Gary, who made 187 appearances for the club between 1983-89 and was part of the 1984 UEFA Cup Final side which overcame Anderlecht, was on hand to recount tales of his playing days at the Lane and lead a team to glory in the futsal tournament.
“It's been a great start to 2016 for me because I'm here meeting the official Malaysian supporters’ club,” said Gary, who led Team Stevens to victory in the futsal tournament, getting the better of some other aptly named sides including, Team Hoddle, Team Gazza, Team Lineker, Team King and Team Kane!
“For those that managed to get there, it was a fantastic event and for those that didn't you're going to have to join in next time! I'm sure the rest of the 2015/16 season is going to be a super season for my old club Tottenham Hotspur."
The club’s official Malaysian Twitter account - @Spurs_MAS - also organised another highlight of the event which was the presentation of a home shirt, signed by Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli, to Malaysia Spurs. Supporters’ club president Syahizan Amir received the gift on behalf of Malaysia Spurs as a thank you for their dedicated following and one of their members, Saarvin Kumarasamy, scooped the home kit competition.
The event could not have happened without the fantastic work of Malaysia Spurs and as the event came to an end there were already discussions about organising the next one!
