Hugo Lloris: "Every day I feel the atmosphere at this Club, without it, you cannot reach great things"

Hugo Lloris told us all the way back in 2012 that he believed in the Club and where it's heading. Four years and almost 200 appearances down the line, nothing has changed his way of thinking.

We've just announced that the popular goalkeeper, captain of Spurs and France, has signed a new deal until 2022.

"That’s the way I show my commitment to the Club, to my team-mates and the gaffer and to show again how much I believe in this project and hopefully the best years are ahead," he said.

"Step by step we are building a strong team, a strong spine and then we are making a competitive team for the future.

"It’s an interesting time with the new stadium so everyone at the Club is excited and hopefully we’ll continue our run in the league and try to reach the top four to get back into the Champions League next season."

Described by the legendary Pat Jennings as a goalkeeper 'with no weaknesses', Hugo's performances helped us achieve our best-ever finish and best-ever defensive record in the Premier League last season, resulting in a return to the Champions League.

Meanwhile, in the summer, he proudly led France to the final of Euro 2016 and just fell short of glory on home soil with a defeat to Ronaldo's Portugal in the final in Paris in July.

If anything, his levels continue to rise. Pat, again, described his saves against Bayer Leverkusen and Monaco 'as good as I've ever seen'. Remember, this is Pat Jennings!

"Coming from Pat, that’s a big reward, I must say!" said Hugo. "There is no secret. In football, you cannot reach your level only with your talent, you need to work hard and the gaffer’s project is great for me, I feel really comfortable with the way we work, the way we train and the way we play."

Now 29, Hugo now has 189 appearances to his name. He is one of nine centurians (all competitions) at the Club.

He told us a couple of seasons ago that he felt a 'family' vibe here, so with so many players playing so many games and committing their futures, did he feel that the Club meant more to this group of team-mates?

"Yes, I feel that every day, every day I close the door in the training ground I can feel this atmosphere and that’s very important for this Club, the way we want to play, the way we want to work, the atmosphere is very important in the team and that’s thanks to the gaffer and his staff who brought this feeling and without that, you cannot reach great things," he stated.

"Step by step we will arrive where we want to be, where we want to go and we just need to be passionate, to work hard and be ready to compete against the best teams."

Look out for more from Hugo in the next few days...
