'We cannot wait to get started' - Harry Kane

Sun 06 August 2017, 11:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Our pre-season friendly schedule ended with Harry Kane doing what he does best - now he’s counting the hours to the start of our 2017-18 Premier League campaign next weekend.

The striker provided the finish to a wonderful team move to open the scoring against Italian champions Juventus after 10 minutes at Wembley on Saturday.

Christian Eriksen then made light work of a one-on-one with world great Gianluigi Buffon from Dele’s defence-splitting pass to complete the 2-0 victory in the second half.

“A lot of the Juventus players played in the Champions League final last season and we dominated from the start, pressed high, got that early goal and controlled the game from there,” said Harry. “It was a great performance and one that will give us a lot of confidence going forward into the new season.”

All eyes now are on St James Park and our Premier League opener against Newcastle United on Sunday (1.30pm).

The players have worked as hard as ever since the first group returned to Hotspur Way in the first week of July. Since day one, it’s been about Sunday 13 August. Now it’s a week away.

“When you start pre-season you can’t wait for the season to start,” added Harry, who goes into a new season on 99 goals for the Club and back-to-back Premier League Golden Boots to his name.

“We’ve had a tough month and now we’re looking forward to it all getting started. We played well against Juventus and the feeling is good going into that first game.”

Juventus ticked a number of boxes. “Pre-season is all about fitness. That was the last game before the start of the season so it was good to get 80 minutes under my belt personally, now we have another full week of training. We’ll work hard ahead of Newcastle.”
