Foundation forms new partnership with St Cross RC Primary School

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and St Cross RC Primary in Hertfordshire have formed a new partnership that will see the Foundation deliver the school’s physical education (PE) lessons as part of the curriculum from September, 2015.

Pupils will benefit from the expertise of the Foundation’s sports coaches who will run the PE lessons twice per week during term time.  

To celebrate the partnership, the Foundation hosted an action-packed day of activities for over 200 children at the school.

Starting with a full school assembly, reception to Year 6 classes were given the opportunity to take part in workshops covering literacy, numeracy, healthy lifestyles and PE. Each session was designed with different areas of the curriculum in mind and used the core theme of Spurs to engage students while also giving them a chance to learn more about their footballing heroes.

Miss Woolner, teacher at St Cross RC Primary, said: "Tottenham Hotspur Foundation engaged the class from the very start. The Spurs-themed data handling tasks they had planned were exciting and pitched well, creating challenges for all levels. The children thoroughly enjoyed the lesson. As a teacher, there were lots of ideas and strategies that I will incorporate into my own practise."

One of the students who took part in the numeracy workshop said: “I really liked our maths lesson - we found out how tall the players were and put them in height order.”

Assistant Headteacher and PE lead at St Cross RC Primary, Cassie Burling, said: “The provision provided by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s School and Education team encompasses a range of subject areas and specialisms.

“The children had a fantastic day that was both educational and fun. It was a great example of how such an exciting relationship is going to benefit all involved at the school during the next academic year.

“We’re all looking forward to this opportunity and believe the Foundation will have a profound impact on pupils and staff alike.”
