Heung-Min Son: 'The ball came to my head rather than me heading it!'

Heung-Min Son gave all the credit to Harry Kane for his second goal against Huddersfield on Saturday.

Having given us a first-half lead at Wembley, the South Korean star adjusted his body to head a bouncing ball across goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and into the far corner from the left side of the area to make the game safe.

Sonny has previously joked that he doesn’t score headers very often, but on this occasion, as he savoured our 2-0 win, he insisted that striker Harry deserved praise for the way he held off his marker on the right-hand touchline and showed great awareness to almost blindly deliver a raking cross which bounced up perfectly for the attacker.

“It was a brilliant cross before the goal, unbelievable from Harry!” beamed Son, who also bagged a brace in the midweek win over Rochdale in the FA Cup.

“It was a very difficult game. The most important thing was that we dominated the game from the start and at the end we deserved to win. When they’re staying deep, trying to defend and trying to counter-attack, it’s difficult, but we have many good players who can do something different.

“I think we were a bit unlucky, we could have scored many goals. With just two, we feel a bit sad. Of course, we want to score more goals but we are happy to get the three points.”

Now on 15 goals for the season, Son insists he’s gunning for more as we continue to compete in three different competitions.

“I try to score as many goals as possible,” he said. “I’m very happy to score for Tottenham and of course it’s not finished, I’m looking forward to scoring many goals until the end of the season.

“I always try to help my team-mates. Goals are important but winning is the most important thing and we just try to keep winning minds. We just try to focus on every game, like Rochdale, like today – we take every game seriously, we try to win, everyone is hungry and everyone is of the same mind to win.”

On our 17-game unbeaten run, Son added: “I think the most important thing is to keep the same mentality and keep going forward. I was not thinking about it. Of course, it’s good news, but I think there’s many to go.”
