'Organised, stable, outstanding' - Eriksen, Trippier and Dembele react to United win

Christian Eriksen, Kieran Trippier and Mousa Dembele admitted they were somewhat taken aback to take the lead quite so early against Manchester United, but were nevertheless delighted with our rapid start against the Red Devils.

Christian finished off an immediate attack from kick-off to break the deadlock after just 11 seconds in front of a record Premier League crowd at Wembley.

Kieran’s venomous cross was then turned into his own net by Phil Jones as we took a 2-0 lead inside half-an-hour – and that’s how it stayed as we registered a huge victory in the race for a top four spot.

Christian Eriksen

On returning from illness to score straight away
“It's the perfect way to come back – to score with your first touch! It's never happened before and probably won't happen again, but it was a very good start. Everything fell perfectly for me, the ball was laying down there nice and quiet and all I had to do was step up and kick it in – the perfect start to a very good game.”

On trying to add to our lead
“With all the shots we had, I think sometimes we could even make some of the chances bigger than they were. To get so many shots against United is a very good thing and it gives us a lot of confidence for the next few games. The team is clicking and to score after 11 seconds makes it easier to get going, a perfect start. We play with a lot of confidence, try to go forward, try to create chances and we had a lot of possession. We’re good on the ball and create chances.”

Is that your fastest ever goal?
“I might have scored in 10 seconds in training but that doesn’t count. It’s the first and probably the last time I score in 11 seconds!”

Thoughts on the game
“We knew we had to start fast and bright – although I wasn't expecting to score quite so early! United are a quality side but we knew if we could match them up, like we do with every team, then we can beat anyone. It was a great performance and clean sheet. From start to finish, we were outstanding.”

On the team’s energy
“United have quality, technical players and as soon as they got the ball we had to press quickly. Every time they were on the ball we got two or three players around to get it back and play our game. We had to start with a high tempo and from start to finish we controlled the game. Of course, they had a couple of chances and Hugo made a couple of great saves but we kept that clean sheet and secured a massive win.”

On flying up and down the right side
“The game seemed to go on forever, it was so fast from the start – one of the quickest games I've played in. I just keep going, keep working hard in training, keep listening to the manager and my team-mates and give my all.”

On defending against United’s attack
“Credit to Ben, Jan, Hugo and Davinson. The quality they have… you can go through the whole team. We had to be on them from minute one, press them from high and we did that.”

Feelings after the game
“It feels good! We were very organised so that was very positive, everybody played a good game and it was stable so it was brilliant.”

On his own good performance
“Everybody played well to be honest. If the team performance is good and we’re much more organised than them, then it’s easier to play in the midfield. If it’s not that organised then obviously for us midfielders it will be more difficult so I’m very happy that my team-mates made it easier for me.”

On preventing United’s attackers from hitting their stride
“Everybody was very organised so we were on top of the game. After the first goal we kept on pushing, kept on trying to create and that was the right mentality because it’s not always positive if after a minute you are 1-0 up. Sometimes you can think it’s very easy in your mind but we didn’t think about it being easy, we went for 2-0 and it could have been even more. After everything, we have to be positive and I think it was a good performance from everyone.”
