Dembele: 'I'm playing games and feeling good'

Mousa Dembele says consistency is key for him following another peak performance at Wembley.

Our Belgian international midfielder was on top form on Wednesday night as we overpowered Manchester United en route to a 2-0 victory at the national stadium – a result that could prove crucial in the race for a spot in the Premier League’s top four.

After suffering from an ankle problem earlier in the campaign, the 30-year-old was also domineering in the centre of the park during the 4-0 thrashing of Everton in our previous home game on January 13.

Asked whether he feels like he’s now back to his best following a couple of injury setbacks in 2017, Mousa admitted: “No, I’ve felt good for a long time already.

“Obviously we have more players doing well so we are rotating more but, for me, if I play a few games I always feel better and this is the case now.

“At the moment I’m playing a bit more and I’m feeling even more fit on the pitch, so that’s a positive thing.”

Never one to talk up his own brilliance, Mousa gives all the credit to his team-mates for any top-drawer displays, like we saw against Everton and United.

“If the team performance is good and we’re much more organised than our opponents, then it’s easier to play in the midfield,” he explained after Wednesday’s win over the Red Devils, in which he helped to stifle United’s attempts to attack and drove us forward in the other direction.

“If it’s not that organised then obviously for us midfielders it will be more difficult, so I’m very happy that my team-mates make it easier for me.”
