'I've really enjoyed these last few months' - Ben Davies

Ben Davies believes he’s been playing some of the best football of his Spurs career in the last few months.

The hard-working Welsh international, currently enjoying some well-earned down time after playing in Wales’ 1-1 draw in Serbia a fortnight ago, was a regular pick at left-back in the second half of the 2016-17 season.

With Danny Rose having gone down with an injury in January and our title challenge picking up speed, Ben got his head down, worked his socks off for the team and was an important member of the side that ultimately secured a second place finish with two games to spare.

As the team switched between a back four and a three-at-the-back system with wing-backs, Ben continued to develop the attacking side of his game and even bagged his first two goals for us since his 2014 move from Swansea, hitting the target against Aston Villa in the FA Cup in January and then joining in with our 7-1 destruction of relegated Hull on the final day.

Asked whether that sustained spell in the side led to his best run of form in a Spurs shirt, the 24-year-old replied: “Yes, probably. I think it’s been nice to have a run of games. Especially as a full-back, every game has to be about consistency and the more games you can play in a row the better really.

“When you get that run of games, you get that little bit sharper, a little bit fresher and sometimes that just comes with playing. It’s been nice to have got a couple of goals at the other end as well. I’ve really enjoyed playing in the last few months and I feel I’ve been doing alright.”

Looking at last season as a whole, Ben says the entire squad has to take credit for what has transpired on the pitch.

“We’ve had a real go this year and I think some of the performances we’ve put in have been excellent,” he said.

“We’ve really worked hard for the whole season and tried to put in the best performances we can. With the amount of work we’ve put in, some performances are really showing that we’re improving as a side and getting better most weeks. It’s a credit to the hard work that we’ve been doing and I feel like we’re improving as a team, so hopefully we can take some momentum going into next season.”
