The Spanish international striker joined us from Swansea City on transfer deadline day after a fantastic 2016-17 campaign the Liberty Stadium, where he netted 15 goals in 33 top flight appearances.
He was instrumental in the Swans' survival in what was his first taste of the Premier League after a glittering career with Spanish sides Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla, plus a trophy-laden spell at Italian giants Juventus in between.
Now 32, the front man actually lined up for Bilbao during our 2-1 friendly victory against the La Liga side at White Hart Lane prior to the 2011-12 season.
After underlining his delight at joining Mauricio Pochettino's present-day project here at Spurs, he fondly recalled that encounter as one that opened his eyes to the delights of the English game.
"I remember the atmosphere and when I lived this match, I could see how it is in the Premier League," he smiled.
"I’ve always wanted to come to the Premier League and, for me, that match was amazing, White Hart Lane was amazing and now I’m going to see the new stadium – it will be amazing too!
"I’m very happy and it’s a very good moment to come to Tottenham. I think we have a lot of possibilities to win titles and we will fight for this. I think I can do more things in my career and my dream is to do that here at Tottenham."
