Dele on his 'shinner', Eriksen and Trippier on 'big win' against Liverpool

Mon 23 October 2017, 16:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Dele Alli was delighted to see his 'shinner' hit the back of the net against Liverpool.

The England star told us afterwards that his team-mates had pulled his leg a little on his strike - a key goal to put us 3-1 up just before half-time on our way to a commanding 4-1 win at Wembley.

"The lads are all saying it came off my shin but I’m just happy it went in!" said Dele after taking his tally to three goals in nine matches in the Premier League.

"It was a good time to score as well, just before half-time and 3-1 is a lot different to 2-1. I’m happy to score but more importantly is was a fantastic performance and we’re all delighted to get the win."

Dele also referred to the team's fast start - here's what he had to say with Kieran Trippier and Christisn Eriksen...

Dele Alli

On getting out of the traps and 2-0 up inside 12 minutes...
Dele: "You have to be on it from the first whistle and we definitely did that. They like to press and make the game really fast, we dealt with it well and stuck to the game plan. We knew there was going to be chances in behind and Harry's and Sonny's goals came from great patterns of play. It was a very professional performance, disappointing to concede but they are always going to get chances, they are a great side and it was about how we dealt with them. We were fantastic all over the pitch, Hugo made big saves at crucial times, the defence was solid, myself, Winksy and Chris played well together and Harry and Sonny did what they did best."

On his deeper role as part of the midfield three...
Dele: "It was a little different to what I’ve been playing but I’m comfortable in there. I’ve played there for the majority of my career growing up at MK, so it’s not something I’m not used to and it felt good playing in there again. I’m happy to play anywhere for this team and if the manager asks me to play there, I’ll do it and hopefully put in another good performance."

Kieran Trippier

On going ahead early...
Kieran: "The early goal made a difference and in these games you need to score that goal to get the momentum of the game. We scored that first goal early and we were very strong, created a lot of chances and scored four good goals. You need to stamp your authority on the game and I thought from start to finish it was a good performance."

On following up the huge draw against Real Madrid...
Kieran: "You want to do that every single game, no matter who you play. The Madrid game was a fantastic team performance and we’re on a good run at the moment, full of confidence and it was no different today. We knew Liverpool were going to come out of the traps and we had to do the same. We had to match them and we did that excellently, pressed well and countered well."

Christian Eriksen

On looking forward rather than just keeping possession from the free-kick in the last seconds of the first half, leading to the third goal...
Christian: "We always play for the win. I was thinking about that when I took the free-kick. The feeling was, ‘should we keep the ball, it’s 2-1’ but I just tried to get the ball forward, Dele had a delightful finish and it was 3-1 at half-time, a big difference compared to 2-1 so that was very nice. You can play safe but I asked the referee how long we had left, he didn’t have long left so why not try to go forward? I know Harry was asking for the ball, the ball didn’t come for him but Dele was there and it was a very good finish at a very important time."

On Dele and Sonny...
Christian: "They ran a lot, helped the team a lot even defensively and also tried to go forward every time. Dele is always going for a goal, Sonny as well. We know how sharp he can be and I’m pleased for both of them to get some confidence and build on this. It was very important, a big win for us."
