'That meant a lot' - Christian on goal and win against Bournemouth

Sun 15 October 2017, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen said it ‘wasn’t the most beautiful game we’ve played’ as we were pushed all the way by Bournemouth at Wembley - although his winning goal was certainly in that bracket.

It’s been quite a week for the midfield maestro - on target for the fifth and sixth-successive international to take Denmark into the play-offs for a place at the World Cup and now a sublime strike to secure our first Premier League victory at Wembley, connected by EE.

Christian guided the ball with his left foot beyond Asmir Begovic and into the corner from 16 yards two minutes into the second half.

Mauricio Pochettino described it as ‘soft touch’ and ‘fantastic goal’ and it proved decisive - although it could have been more as we created chances in the second half after a tough opening 45.

“It was an important win and meant a lot,” said Christian. “It wasn’t the most beautiful game we’ve played but we have the three points and we’re all really happy about it.”

As for the goal, Christian added: “Apparently when I’m in that situation I know where the goal is! It was a good pass from Sonny, a bit of a lucky touch, the defender went down and the ball fell for me and I had a good shot.

“It was a nice goal, not a hard shot, the one I shot hard the goalkeeper saved well! Perhaps I shouldn’t shoot so hard and more precise (instead) and the ball will go in!"
