Thomas previews Women’s FA Cup final: “It will be an unbelievable occasion”

Tue 07 May 2024, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Martha Thomas is aiming to round off in style what has already been a memorable season at the Club ahead of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday afternoon (2.30pm UK).

We will be competing in our first-ever major final this weekend as we face Martha’s former side, Manchester United, at Wembley Stadium, and both sides will be aiming to claim the trophy for the first time in their history.

The Scotland international played a vital role in helping us to progress to the final stage of the competition, scoring the 118th-minute winner in extra time as we came from behind to beat Leicester City 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the previous round.

Martha, who joined us in the summer after two seasons at United, has enjoyed a fantastic first full campaign in Lilywhite, scoring 10 goals in all competitions, and is hoping to round off the campaign with a potential trophy at the end.

It would really top it off on what has already been an excellent season and it’s definitely what we are aiming for.

"It’s really exciting," the 27-year-old said as preparations for the showpiece event geared up at Enfield.

"Obviously, we have a big week of training ahead for us to gain some confidence, get good feelings going into the game on Sunday and just preparing ourselves the best we can.

"It would really top it off on what has already been an excellent season and it’s definitely what we are aiming for. We will be gutted to walk away with nothing so we are putting all our energy into lifting that trophy.

"They [Man Utd] are coming off the back of what they feel would be a disappointing result and we were slightly disappointed to not get three points, so both sides will be looking for a point to prove. We can expect a physical battle, it will be a tough game, but I’m quite hopeful and it's going to be an unbelievable occasion."
