We were on the march when Borussia Dortmund came to town in September, 2017.

Second in the Premier League and unbeaten at home in the Lane's farewell campaign the previous season, we'd started well again on our way to third place in 2017/18.

However, if there was one grey cloud hanging over that 2016/17 campaign, it was the Champions League.

Back in Europe's elite competition after our exploits in 2015/16, we struggled, winning just two of our six group games to finish third, and then bowing out at the first knockout stage of the Europa League against KAA Gent of Belgium.

You felt there was a steely determination to put that right in 2017/18, but just look at our group! Cypriot champions APOEL, Borussia Dortmund and holders Real Madrid!

Champions League 2017/18 kicked-off against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. Dortmund were top of the Bundesliga - we wanted a flying start...
