To celebrate International Women’s Day, Heung-Min Son this week attended an all-girls’ disability football session organised by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation at The Vale School, Tottenham.

Sonny joined Spurs Ladies players Renee Hector and Jessica Naz to help teach participants new football skills and give them some advice and encouragement during the lesson.

In addition to physical education sessions in schools, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation runs a range of projects all year round to create opportunities for women and girls to access sport, such as Walking Football, a weekly session where women over the age of 50 can take part in inclusive drills and competitive matches, and Premier League Girls, regular football coaching sessions for females aged 11 to 16 which are run from multiple venues across Haringey. The Foundation also has a partnership with Barnet and Southgate College where girls aged 16 to 19 can study towards an accredited football coaching qualification alongside their academic studies.

The Foundation also encourages girls to attend projects such as Premier League KICKS, a programme that uses the power of football to help young people who are at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour or crime, and Passion 4 Coaching, Mauricio Pochettino’s own Foundation project that trains youngsters within the Club’s local community to become volunteer coaches.

Karen Hills, Women and Girls’ Football Development Manager at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Spurs Ladies manager, said: “A fundamental aim of the Foundation is to ensure that all our programmes are inclusive and provide equal opportunities for everyone across the Club’s local community. International Women’s Day is a fantastic platform on which to recognise how important it is to continue to create sporting opportunities for women and girls.”

Heung-Min Son said: “It’s been a privilege taking time out of my day to visit the class and join their coaching session. It’s really important that the Club provides opportunities for local girls to play sport and learn new skills. It’s been great to see them having fun with their friends and enjoying themselves.”
