Maxwell Statham

Born: 06 September 2000 (Southend, England)

Maxwell Statham

A Southend-born defender who plays off his right foot, Maxwell Statham was part of our title-chasing Under-18 Premier League squad in 2018/19, playing in a number of different positions across the back line.

Used as a right-back or in his more familiar centre-back role during the bulk of the campaign, he found a home at left-back in the closing weeks of that season and came on as a substitute for our Under-18s against Southampton in the first ever football match to be played at our new stadium - a Test Event there in March, 2019. That was one of 14 Under-18 Premier League appearances he made as we eventually finished second in the division, while he made a further three appearances in the Under-18 Premier League Cup and played once in the FA Youth Cup at Millwall.

Maxwell was brought up in Chelmsford and attended Moulsham High School in the town, while also playing football locally for Galleywood.

The son of our former defender Brian Statham, who played for us in 1987/88, he netted four times for our Under-16s in 2016/17 before stepping up to feature 11 times in the Under-18 Premier League during his first campaign at that level in 2017/18.

He also started twice in our run to the Under-18 Premier League Cup Final during the latter season.
