Born: 05 November 1998 (Pembury, England)
George Marsh is a tenacious, tough-tackling holding midfielder who joined League Two side Leyton Orient on loan in August, 2019.
He made his senior debut during our 2018 pre-season tour of the United States before making his competitive first team bow as a second-half substitute during our 7-0 win at Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup in January, 2019. An unused substitute in our 3-1 Carabao Cup victory at West Ham in October, 2018, and in Premier League matches against Huddersfield Town and Everton at our new stadium towards the end of the 2018/19 campaign, he also travelled with the squad on a handful of occasions, including to Manchester City for the Champions League quarter-final and to Madrid for the Final itself against Liverpool.
In addition, George was ever-present in our Development Squad's four EFL Trophy matches against senior Football League sides, while playing 20 times in the Premier League 2 and another four times in the Premier League International Cup. Some of those games saw him deployed in the back line, performing well either as a centre-half or right-back, while he also wore the captain's armband on a number of occasions. He subsequently featured on the first team's pre-season tour of Asia in July, 2019.
George was born in Pembury in Kent and raised in nearby Hawkhurst, having attended Robertsbridge Community College prior to joining our Academy full-time in the summer of 2015.
His Under-18s debut came in a 3-1 defeat to Reading in February, 2015 - the first of four substitute appearances he made at that level during 2014/15.
George made good progress in his first full season with our Under-18s, making 21 appearances in 2015/16. He began that campaign filling in at centre-half but by the end of it he was making an impact in central midfield as captain. His performances earned him a place on the bench for our Under-21s at the end of that season and he duly made his debut at that level as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Sunderland at White Hart Lane in April, 2016.
He again wore the armband and led the Under-18s during 23 league appearances in 2016/17, in addition to six games in our run to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals, where he scored in our 4-1 fourth round win at Queens Park Rangers. He also played five times in the UEFA Youth League, made three starts and three substitute appearances for the Under-23s in the Premier League 2 and was part of the Under-18 team that won the IMG Cup in Florida just before Christmas in 2016.
He started seven of our eight games in the run to the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals in 2017/18 and made 15 appearances for the Under-23s in the Premier League 2. He also played three times for Wayne Burnett's side in the Premier League International Cup and started twice in the EFL Trophy against AFC Wimbledon and Barnet.
