Reguilon wants to make more memories in derby clash

Fri 24 September 2021, 15:32|Tottenham Hotspur

Sergio Reguilon is hoping for another “hands up in awe” moment in Sunday’s north London derby.

The all-action left-back left us with a lasting image on our previous visit to the Emirates as he was photographed with his mouth wide open, hands clasping the sides of his head, utterly in admiration of Erik Lamela’s famous ‘rabona’ strike, which was later named Goal of the Season.

The cameras also picked up ‘Reggy’ enjoying a similarly dramatic celebration in the wake of Heung-Min Son’s long-range curler in the home game against Arsenal last term.

Ahead of this weekend’s visit to the Gunners, the Spain international couldn’t resist a quick look back at the photographs of those memorable celebrations – although he insists it’s all about what happens in the present rather than the past when the two sides take to the pitch at 4.30pm on Sunday.

“I remember Sonny’s goal – it was fantastic!” he smiled. “I remember it being a big race for me, running down the left. I was shouting ‘Sonny, Sonny, Sonny’ so he would pass me the ball but after he struck it, I said to myself ‘okay, okay, shut up Reggy, shut up!’ But yes, it was an amazing goal.

“And the away one, Coco (Lamela) came on because Sonny was injured and he scored an amazing goal, it was of the best in the Premier League I think but he had only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes. If you look at my face, you can tell that this was not a normal goal. It was an amazing goal but there are bad memories because we went on to lose.

“Of course, we all want to make sure we win there this time around. Whether the goals are amazing or not, we have a job to do and we are all very focused.”
