Lucas: "We’ll give our best for the fans"

Fri 17 September 2021, 08:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Lucas Moura has been around long enough to know what Sunday’s encounter against Chelsea means to our supporters - and he’s drawing on our opening-day experience against Manchester City as inspiration as we take on the European champions.

Signed in January, 2017, Lucas has already rattled up 163 appearances in all competitions, showing incredible consistency - he’s now featured in 151 of our last 174 matches.

That includes some highs and lows against the team from SW5 - magnificent 3-1 victories at Stamford Bridge and Wembley in 2018, a semi-final loss in the League Cup on penalties in 2019 avenged in the same competition last season, but we're currently five without a win against the Blues in the Premier League.

He’s determined to put that right, and looking to repeat that magnificent victory against reigning champions City on 15 August, the day our fans finally returned in force to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and we delivered in style on the pitch.

For the fans, we'll give our best, do our best and fight to the end

Lucas said: “We know what this means for the fans, and especially when you have them back at the stadium, it is amazing. For sure the stadium, the ambience, the atmosphere will be amazing like against City, and we know what it means.

“For the fans, we'll give our best, do our best and fight to the end. It's a different game when we play against this kind of team, it is a different game, and the motivation is different. We need to take all that in a positive way and do it for the fans.”

Sunday is a big day for the Club off the pitch, as we've partnered with Sky to host the world’s first net zero carbon football game at an elite level.

Lucas is playing his part by taking part in CUP26 - a tournament encouraging football-loving families to act in the fight against climate change.

For CUP26, an activity has been created inspired by Lucas. Entitled ‘No Moura Landfill’, the activity will see participants complete keepie-uppies with a recyclable item before kicking it into a recycling bin.

He said: "We always need to support actions like this, to have a better planet, to live better as a person, as a human being, so I'm very proud of the Club."
