Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has never felt as proud as a footballer as he does now in a Spurs shirt.
That’s the message from our midfield warrior as we approach the halfway point of the season in the Premier League. Matchday 19 of 38 is next and what a game - champions Liverpool at home on Thursday evening (8pm).
Before that, we take the next steps on our FA Cup journey, this time to Adams Park, Wycombe, where we’ll take on the Championship side in round four on Monday evening (7.45pm).
Pierre has played an integral part in our season so far. The Danish international is ever-present in the Premier League, starting all 18 matches as we sit fifth in the table with only three defeats. He’s featured in all three Carabao Cup matches, coming off the bench to score in the penalty shoot-out against Chelsea before starting in the wins against Stoke and Brentford to take us to the final against City on 25 April. He’s also featured in seven of nine matches, starting four, as we’ve reached the knockout phase of the Europa League, making a total of 28 appearances out of 31 in 2020/21.
He said: “As a player, I’m very, very proud, maybe the proudest I’ve ever been as a player to be where I am right now, in terms of the team, the coach, the Club.
“Secondly, my motivation is bigger than ever. That’s also because of the coach. So, I’m very proud, very motivated to be where I am and I want to keep going and reach the maximum with the coach, with the Club, with the team.”
Asked about his switch from Southampton to Spurs in the summer, and how his role has changed, Pierre added: “The team, the manager, the Club has a different dynamic, so, of course, as a player you have to adapt and install yourself into the different personalities, the values of the Club, the values of the team and the manager.
“It’s important not to forget to be yourself, to try to contribute with your own stuff. That’s what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to learn a lot from everyone, but also trying to be myself and give a lot to everyone.”
