Lucas Moura speaks for us all when he declares: “I can’t wait to play again.”
The popular Brazilian forward is counting down the hours to our return to action with a Premier League battle against Manchester United behind closed doors at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight (Friday 19 June, 8.15pm).
The country has been in lockdown since March to combat the outbreak of coronavirus and our last match was against RB Leipzig on 10 March.
The players have been back at Hotspur Way for a few weeks following the Premier League’s Return to Training Protocol and now, over three months since that night in Germany, football is returning.
“I can’t wait to play and feel again the emotions, the feelings, to be at the stadium and to play a game. It’s my life. It’s in my blood,” said Lucas.
I don’t think I’ve played in a stadium without fans, but they will be at home watching us, supporting us and we have to think like this.
“It’s a very important game. We start in the best way, a big game and a big opportunity for us. I think we’re ready. We’ve worked a lot, very hard. We know that we have nine games to play and we need to win points because we need to be back in the Champions League, that is our objective.
“It will be different. I don’t think I’ve played in a stadium without fans, but they will be at home watching us, supporting us and we have to think like this, to think that millions of people are supporting us – we need to have this in our minds, in our hearts and give our best. We know it’s possible to be in the Champions League again and we will do everything we can to achieve this.”
Among United’s danger men is Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes, who has made a big impact since his January arrival from Sporting Lisbon.
“He was a good addition for them, a very good player,” underlined Lucas. “It’s United, we need to respect them. They have a lot of good players. Also, like I said, we are ready. We have Harry Kane back, Sonny and Moussa Sissoko – they are very important for us and can make a big difference. Harry is our striker, he scores a lot of goals and Moussa, he’s a machine in midfield, recovers a lot of balls, very important for us too. Sonny as well – three very important players and that’s very good for us. It will be a difficult game, but I think we can beat United and take the three points.”
