Davinson Sanchez knows that our solidarity will be crucial for us to get back to winning ways against Everton on Monday night (8pm kick-off).
We go into the game with the Merseyside outfit off the back of a frustrating 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United but Davinson knows, while we must take lessons from that disappointment, we can only look to move forwards together – and he wants that spirit to come to the fore against the Blues.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men make the trip to north London in a purple patch of form as, since June’s Premier League restart, they remain unbeaten having picked up seven points out of a possible nine. However, this is a fixture that we have fared well in over the last 12 years, having not suffered a home defeat to the Toffees since 2008.
Yet, while acknowledging the quality that our visitors possess, our Colombian defender admits that he is focussing solely on us, making sure we show our tenacity as well as our unity, and take all three points.
We have to be a step in front of our opponents and we have to push all together.
“Everton always do a good job on the pitch, in the way that they play. Of course, we realise that they are a good group of players and so they have the quality to create us and any team that faces them a lot of problems,” the 24-year-old discussed. “But we have our way. We have to be a step in front of our opponents and we have to push all together.
“As a player, you have to enjoy everything on the pitch. Sometimes there are not good moments, but you have to enjoy because that is the only way that you can deliver your best on the pitch. I trust my team-mates and when you feel the trust of the group, you can deliver in your job - it is about the collective.
“Like, for defenders and the goalkeeper, conceding goals are tough moments but that is not an individual pain, it is a team sport, so we have to manage games as a group.
“Football is crazy because it can change with any situation and things can get harder for you. What we have to do is keep the team spirit we have and keeping pushing.”
