Jan Vertonghen says we’ll be ‘on the front foot’ against runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool at the new stadium on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off).

The Reds are top of the pile by 13 points with a game in hand going into this weekend, having won 19 and drawn one of their 20 matches so far this season, including a come-from-behind win against us at Anfield in October. They’ve lost just once in the league since January last year and are now European and World champions.

One of the most consistent performers in the Premier League since his arrival at Spurs in 2012, Jan recognises Jurgen Klopp’s team as one of the best of the era – but remains undaunted heading into Saturday.

We’ll be on the front foot, going for it. We feel confident at home and we always go for the win at home, no matter who we play.

He said: “You look at the Manchester City team that dominated for a couple of years but Liverpool, they are right up there with the best teams that have been in the Premier League in the last 10 years.

“We’ve always equalled their quality, we were close in the Champions League Final, but obviously they are now in a run of (unbeaten) games and trophies. They are very consistent, and they are showing every week that they deserve to be up there.

“We’ll be on the front foot, going for it. We feel confident at home and we always go for the win at home, no matter who we play. Of course, Liverpool is a big challenge for us, but we did well in the away game and that will give us confidence for this home game.”
