Davinson: 'We have to stay strong'

Patience and a positive mindset – two traits that are important to Davinson Sanchez as he works through the lockdown period.

While the nation continues to battle the coronavirus, the players are maintaining their fitness individually at home, linking up with their team-mates and our coaching staff remotely via video link.

For defender Davinson, it’s important to stay upbeat and use the thought of our eventual return to full training – whenever that may be – as inspiration.

“Obviously it's a way to continue training and keep fit,” the Colombian international said of the video link set-up when speaking to us from his home on Thursday.

“It can be difficult in one way or another but we are doing our best to make everything go the right way so that we can be ready for when we get back to normal, which we hope will be as soon as possible.

“It's a little unusual but it's the only solution right now and that's why we have to stay strong.”

Hailing from Caloto in Colombia, Davinson arrived in north London via a spell at Ajax in 2017. During this unprecedented period of social distancing, the 23-year-old centre-back has drawn added strength from keeping in touch with those members of his family who are still based in his home country.

“Of course, they are at home like we are in the UK,” he added. “It’s still a little different than how we live here, but they are taking all the precautions for safety. At this moment, the only thing we can do is to become strong as a family – both here and in Colombia – and be patient. There is nothing better than being together as a family and we can all look forward to that again soon.”
