We made it back-to-back Premier League victories on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 win over Newcastle United.

On a day which marked the first game of a new era on Tyneside, the hosts took an early lead with Callum Wilson nodding in with less than two minutes on the clock. We surged back into the game though, levelling on 17 minutes through Tanguy Ndombele before Harry Kane’s first Premier League goal of the season turned the encounter on its head five minutes later.

Late in the first period, the game was suspended after a spectator took ill in the stands but, after he received swift medical attention and was taken to hospital, the match resumed, and we soon had our third – Heung-Min Son prodding home from close range in injury time at the end of the first half.

The meeting’s eventful proceedings continued into the second half where, on 83 minutes, Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey was dismissed after picking up his second yellow card before Eric Dier inadvertently sent the ball into his own net six minutes later to give the home side late hope. However, that goal mattered little as, come the final whistle, we had all three points in the bag to move up to fifth in the table.

Here’s a look at all the key numbers behind the game…

Kane strikes on Tyneside once more

8 – Harry Kane has been involved in eight goals in 11 games for us so far this season (seven goals, one assist).

202 – In just 252 Premier League games, Harry has now contributed to 202 goals (167 goals, 35 assists).

7 – In his last five games against Newcastle United, Harry has been involved in seven goals (five goals, two assists).

5 – in his last three visits to St James’ Park, he has scored five goals against Newcastle. Six of his seven Premier League goals against the Magpies have come on Tyneside (85 per cent).

88 – Harry has now scored 88 goals in 128 away Premier League games, the second-most of any player in the competition’s history. Wayne Rooney leads the way with 94 goals in 243 away games.

10 up for Tanguy

10 – Tanguy Ndombele’s strike versus Newcastle was his 10th goal in a Spurs shirt.

2 – The strike was his second goal involvement in as many games at St James’ Park after providing as assist for Harry Kane in last season’s 2-2 draw on Tyneside.

8 – His last eight goals for the Club have all come away from home having scored his first two in our colours at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

1 – It was his first goal in the Premier League since his audacious strike against Sheffield United back in January.

3 – Tanguy blocked three shots in the game – more than any other player on the pitch.

98 – Only Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (124) had more touches of the ball than the Frenchman (98).

Pierre’s prowess

27 – No player has made more successful tackles in the Premier League this season than Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

9 – He made nine tackles in the game against Newcastle alone  – the most by a player in a Premier League fixture this season.

2 – The midfielder has been involved in two goals for us in his last two games.

10 – He has now been involved in 10 goals for us since completing his move to north London last summer (four goals, six assists).

80 – Four of Pierre’s five Premier League assists (80 per cent) have been converted by Harry Kane.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s game in numbers

96 per cent pass accuracy
124 touches
99 accurate passes
10 ball recoveries
Nine duels won

One assist

St James’ fortunes continue

1 – We have lost just one of our last seven visits to St James’ Park (winning five, drawing one) and are unbeaten on our last five visits.

7 – Nuno Espirito Santo remains undefeated against Newcastle after seven career meetings. Our Head Coach has won two and drawn five of his past encounters with the Magpies.

1 – He has lost just one of his seven meetings with Steve Bruce, winning twice, and drawing the other four. He is unbeaten against the Newcastle boss in the Premier League after five meetings although this was his first victory over him in the top flight (four draws).

4 – We have won each of our last four Premier League matches when conceding inside the opening two minutes (5-1 v Bournemouth in October, 2015, 4-1 v Southampton in December, 2016 and 6-1 vs Manchester United in October, 2020).

5 – There were five shots on target in the game – four of them went in.

Players in focus

5 – Heung-Min Son has been involved in five goals in our seven Premier League games so far this season (scored four, assisted one) – not including his cross for Matt Targett’s own goal in our 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the start of October.

35 – Harry Kane provided the assist for Sonny’s goal against Newcastle. The duo have now combined for 35 Premier League goals, one behind the competition’s record of 36, set by Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

2 - Only Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo (6) has hit the woodwork more times than Lucas Moura (2) this season.

2 – Sergio Reguilon has provided two assists in his last three games, with both of them coming away from home. Last season he provided five, with all of them coming at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
