App exclusive: Davinson optimistic over Boro replay

Davinson Sanchez says confidence will be key to beating Middlesbrough at the second time of asking.

We take on the Championship side in the third round of the FA Cup again tonight (Tuesday, kick-off 8.05pm) after battling out a 1-1 draw at The Riverside last weekend.

A trip to Southampton awaits the winners of this evening’s replay and, for defender Davinson, who impressed in Saturday’s narrow loss to Premier League leaders Liverpool, a positive mindset should yield a positive result.

“It’s very important to win this game – it’s about confidence, we know that,” he said. “We need some wins and then our quality is going to shine through.

“In every game we are confident in the way that we are going. In the game there are many things that you can’t control, many situations you can’t control, but as a team we need to keep going.”

It’s early days of course, but does Davinson believe we have a realistic chance of winning the FA Cup this season?

“We will try but we need to keep going game-by-game and game-by-game it’s going to give us the chance to take it,” he said.

“We can’t say that we’re going to win now – of course, we are thinking that – but it’s game-by-game. If maybe the result last week against Middlesbrough wasn’t good or didn’t give us the opportunity to play again here at home, it means we cannot think about that.

“Tonight we have to do the job and then we’ll see what happens.”
