We returned to winning ways on Wednesday night as we booked our place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 triumph over Stoke City.

Gareth Bale opened the scoring at the bet365 Stadium with a delightful glancing header on 22 minutes, but the Potters responded well in the second half, equalising just eight minutes after the restart through Jordan Thompson. Yet, it was to be our night in Staffordshire as Ben Davies fired us back in front on 70 minutes with a fine strike from distance before Harry Kane confirmed the victory with a thunderous close-range finish with 11 minutes remaining.

Player in focus – Harry Winks

94 - Harry Winks completed 94 per cent of his passes in the game - the best pass-completion rate of any player involved in the match

2 - Harry also made two key passes in the game - no Spurs player contributed more in the game.

3 – Our number eight’s assist for Gareth Bale’s 22nd-minute header was only his third assist for us and it was his first since December, 2017, when he teed up Serge Aurier for the opener in a 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton.

2 – He has now been directly involved in two goals for us this season - his best-ever return in a single campaign (also two in 2016/17).

100 - Harry completed 100 per cent of his dribbles in the game.

Sanchez’s stronghold

10 - Davinson Sanchez won 10 aerial duels in the game - more than any other player.

100 – The Colombian was also successful in 100 per cent of his tackles.

Welsh wonders

52 - Gareth Bale and Ben Davies on the scoresheet meant two Welshman were on target for us in the same game for the first time in 52 years. Mike England and Cliff Jones were the last two Welshman to score in a game for us in a 5-0 win over Burnley in March, 1968.

2 - Gareth now has two goals in his last two League Cup matches. His last outing in the competition, prior to Wednesday night’s victory over Stoke, came over eight years ago against Norwich City when he scored in a 2-1 defeat at Carrow Road in October, 2012.

4 - It is now four goal involvements for Gareth in his last five appearances in the competition - a run that stretches back to September, 2009 (two goals, two assists).

1 - Ben Davies’ goal was his first ever in the League Cup, but his second career goal against Stoke - the only team he has registered more than one goal against since turning professional.
