Rehanne’s update on the captaincy process

Spurs Women Head Coach Rehanne Skinner has made a number of changes since her arrival in November, 2020, the captaincy being one of them

We caught up with Rehanne for an update on how the captaincy process is progressing.

“Josie Green captained the team for the first half of the season and has been on a real journey with Spurs over a number of years," Rehanne said. "She has played a key part in the evolution of the club and continues to do so on a day-to-day basis. I am grateful for Josie’s contributions and she continues to be a highly valued member of the team."

“Team culture is a really important aspect of any successful team and when I arrived it was key for me to understand the current culture and get to know the players, what their current roles were in the team and where they were the most effective in order to build on what was already in place. All of this takes time and it is important to take that time to get it right and ensure everyone understands their value to the team.

"During this time and the adaptations we have made as a team, there has been an emerging group of leaders with a variety of individual skillsets which has been fantastic to see,” Rehanne explained.

"They are driving the standards and have a good understanding of what it’s going to take to be at our best and are completely onboard with the culture we are trying to create here."

"For me, Shelina has a number of attributes behind the scenes alongside her consistent performances that made her leadership skills stand out. She is a diligent professional, is an excellent communicator with players and staff, is a positive motivator and encourages players to do their best whilst also demanding the high standards that she also lives by on a day-to-day basis. With the support of the leadership group within the team, I feel she is the best person to lead the team going forward.”
