Match preview: Tottenham Hotspur Women v Manchester United Women

We kick off the 2022/23 Women’s Super League at home to Manchester United on Saturday following last season’s fifth-placed finish in the WSL - our highest ever position.

Spurs fans could see new signings Celin Bizet Ildhusøy, Angharad James, Nikola Karczewska, Amy Turner, Ramona Petzelberger, Ellie Brazil and Drew Spence in action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time.

The game kicks off at 12.30pm and tickets are available to purchase online here.

United finished fourth in the WSL for the third season running in 2021/22, and have beaten Paris Saint-Germain and Everton in pre-season, but lost to Bayern Munich.

Marc Skinner’s side have completed the signings of Aïssatou Tounkara, Adriana Leon, Nikita Parris, Lucía García, Maya Le Tissier, Grace Clinton, and Rachel Williams this summer.

Alessia Russo was the club’s top scorer last season with 11 goals in all competitions prior to her success with the Lionesses at Euro 2022.

Last season, we lost 3-0 to United at Leigh Sports Village in January, after drawing 1-1 at the Hive Stadium in November thanks to Ria Percival’s 95th minute free-kick equaliser.

“What we’re about is never give up and never say die,” Rehanne Skinner said after that game.

Summer signing Amy Turner, who spent three years at Manchester United earlier in her career, said: “It is the first time I’ve played against United since I left. I’m still close to a lot of the girls at the Club and the fans were always so kind towards me – I don’t know whether that will change in a few weeks’ time!

“It will be a tough game. They have signed some good players over the summer and there are a number of new faces there.

“Alessia [Russo] and Tooney [Ella Toone] were on fire over the summer and we’ll have to find a way
to keep them quiet. We’re all looking forward to the game and I’m really excited to meet the Spurs
fans for the first time.

“It should be a fantastic occasion, the first game of the new season and live on Sky Sports, so
hopefully we put on a good show and I’m sure off the back of the Euros there might be a few new
fans watching the league. We will have to be at our best and take the lessons we’ve learned during
pre-season into the game to get a result.”

To read our full interview with Amy, pick up a copy of the matchday programme on Saturday at a number of programme booths outside the stadium, in the Spurs Shop at the Tottenham Experience or at the Tap Inn bars inside the stadium.
