Club legends visit Summer of Spurs

Jermain Defoe and Michael Dawson were the latest special guests to attend our Summer of Spurs holiday programme in N17 today (Tuesday).

The Club legends took part in a range of multi-sports activity alongside local young people enjoying their school holidays in the shadow of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Even a torrential downpour couldn’t dampen the spirits as activities moved indoors thanks to the facilities on offer at Duke’s Aldridge Academy across the road.

Jermain, who has this week re-joined the Club as Academy coach and Ambassador, said: “It’s great for the kids and also their parents - I would have loved to have something like this when I was growing up.

“The fact that all the activities are free and kids can come here, keep fit, have some lunch and work with our coaches, it’s so important.

“We know that if young people don’t have something active to do in their school holidays, it could lead to them being out on the streets and up to no good, so it was great to see so many here enjoying themselves today.”

Daws, who is now entering his second year as a Club Ambassador, added: “Summer of Spurs is a fantastic programme - full credit to the Club for putting this on.

“The kids are clearly enjoying themselves and it was great for me and JD to get involved in the activities with them. The fact that it’s all happening right outside the stadium three days a week carries a huge appeal for any local kids and parents.”

Summer of Spurs sees football and multi-sports activity for young people of all ages and abilities take place on N17 Arena - a community hub located on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium campus - and Duke’s Aldridge Academy from 11am-9pm, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout August.

During the day (11am-5pm), young people are able to come along and enjoy a range of sports, including football, basketball and NFL flag football.

Then, in the evening (5-9pm), coaches from the Club’s Global Football Development team deliver technical player development sessions with the opportunity for those taking part to access the Club’s talent ID and coaching excellence pathways.

Summer of Spurs aims to keep young people in the Tottenham area engaged in positive activity during the school holidays, promoting health and wellbeing and reducing levels of crime and anti-social behaviour in the process.
