1 from 30 | Wolves v Spurs

We continue to mark 30 years of the Premier League with a late, late win at Wolves back in December, 2019...

Welcome back to our special feature for 2022/23 - 1 from 30 - as we continue to mark 30 years of the Premier League.

English football's new dawn kicked-off on the weekend of 15/16 August, 1992 as the FA Premier League replaced Barclays League Division One, ending a structure of Division One-Four that had been in place since 1958. Thirty years on, the Premier League is amongst the most watched and most valuable sporting leagues in the world.

In this series, we're featuring a match from those 30 years that corresponds with our next fixture - next up, win in the rain at Molineux back in December, 2019 - and a popular late, late winner from 'Super Jan'...

Wolves 1-2 Spurs - 15 December, 2019

A cracking game, two thunderbolts and a late, late winner on the road - plus a 'Super Jan' celebration - who could want more from an afternoon at Molineux?

Wolves, including the likes of Diogo Jota, Conor Coady, in-form Raul Jimenez and a certain Matt Doherty, were flying high at the time, unbeaten in 11 and sixth at start of play. Jose Mourinho had been with us just over a month and three wins out of four had lifted us from 14th to seventh.

We started well and Lucas Moura scored one of the goals of the season to open the scoring on eight minutes, driving into the box from the right before smashing his shot into the roof of the net. In an open game, Jimenez fired just wide for Wolves before Eric Dier struck the post.

Into the second half, and Wolves piled on the pressure. Adama Traore levelled in style with a ferocious drive from 25 yards and Jota was denied by Paolo Gazzaniga - in for injured Hugo Lloris - and drilled across goal in what looked like the final chance of the game.

However, the final word went to Jan Vertonghen. Starting left-back and faced with the prospect of Traore all afternoon, the defender found himself in the box for a corner as the clock ticked into the first of four minutes of added time. Christian Eriksen delivered, Jan lost his man and powered a header home from 14 yards. Cue the 'Super Jan' celebration and wild scenes from our 3,000 travelling fans, who were singing in the rain all the way home!

Spurs: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Dier, Sissoko, Son (Winks), Dele (Foyth), Lucas (Eriksen), Kane.
