The Ange Postecoglou era and our 2023/24 Premier League campaign got off to an encouraging start as we earned a 2-2 draw away at Brentford on Sunday afternoon.
A ground where the Bees lost just twice during the 2022/23 campaign - and somewhere we are yet to record a Premier League win - we got off to the perfect start at the Gtech Community Stadium as Cristian Romero guided home James Maddison's free-kick with a thumping header just 11 minutes into the game.
Despite our dominance of possession in west London, our hosts always carried a threat on the counter-attack and, by the 36th minute, they had turned the game on its head. First Bryan Mbeumo dispatched a penalty on to level the scores on 27 minutes before Yoane Wissa stroked home from close range nine minutes later to put the Bees ahead.
Yet, we continued to plug away on the ball in our campaign opener and managed to get back on terms just before the half-time whistle - Emerson Royal firing home from range to take us into the break at 2-2.
In the second period, we were limited to opportunities at the Gtech, with only Richarlison really testing Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken while debutant Guglielmo Vicario made a number of importance interventions to ensure we returned to north London with a point.
