Opposition watch | How have Palace fared since we last met in October?
There's a new face on the opposition bench as we step back into Premier League action against Crystal Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (3pm UK) - here's a closer look at the Eagles, now managed by Oliver Glasner...
Form
Palace arrive in N17 in 13th place in the Premier League, but a spell of two wins in 14 prompted a change at the top with former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner taking over from Roy Hodgson. Glasner made the perfect start to life in SE25 as well with a convincing 3-0 win against Burnley, who were down to 10 men on 35 minutes, thanks to a quickfire three goals in 11 minutes from Chris Richards, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Phillipe Mateta. Away form has been an issue - Palace have won three of 13 this season and you have to go back to 4 November, 15 matches ago, for their last win on the road, at Burnley.
Players to watch
Palace lined-up in a 3-4-2-1 system in Glasner's first match last weekend. However, he was without key players, including England internationals Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi and exciting forward Michael Olise. That saw Jean-Phillippe Mateta lead the line with support from Jordan Ayew and Odsonne Edouard - Mateta and Ayew both on target in the 3-0 win against Burnley. It looks unlikely Guehi will be back for Saturday, although Eze and Olise could return. Joel Ward captains the team with Joachim Andersen and Chris Richards alongside him - Richards also scored last week. Tyrick Mitchell will always look to push on from the left with Jefferson Lerma covering the grass in midfield.
Manager - Oliver Glasner
A familiar face from our last European campaign, Oliver Glasner was in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt for our two group matches in the 2022/23 Champions League, and we got the better of the German side with a goalless draw away followed by a 3-2 win at home. Born in Austria, Glasner was a loyal servant to SV Ried, a club he made over 500 league appearances for in 19 years, 1992-2011, winning the Austria Cup in 1998 and 2011. It was no surprise, therefore, that his coaching career kicked-off at the same club in 2014 before a switch to LASK a year later. He guided LASK to promotion, then to their first European campaign in almost 20 years via a fourth-placed finish in the Austria Bundesliga. LASK then finished second in 2018/19 to take their place in the Champions League qualifying rounds. Vfl Wolfsburg came calling in 2019 and Glasner led them to fourth in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Glasner moved to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021 and his biggest achievement soon followed, beating Barcelona on the way to lifting the Europa League against Rangers on penalties. Eintracht Frankfurt also qualified from our Champions League group in 2022/23, but they lost out to Napoli in the Round of 16. He departed at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Last time we met
A controlled performance saw us home 2-1 at Selhurst Park on 27 October, top of the Premier League and stretch our unbeaten start to 10 games. After a quiet first half, we opened the scoring on 53 minutes when Joel Ward deflected home after good work from James Maddison. Our second goal was a beauty, back to front, as Pape Matar Sarr switched play to Brennan Johnson, and he crossed for Heung-Min Son to convert. Jordan Ayew pulled a goal back in added time, but we held on for the 2-1 win.
