Spurs vs Man City (Conti Cup) | Robert’s preview: “Hopefully we can shape up a little bit…give ourselves a better chance”
Robert Vilahamn is looking forward to testing ourselves against Manchester City once again ahead of our FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup quarter-final tie at Brisbane Road on Wednesday evening (7.30pm KO).
It will be the second time we’ve hosted them in 10 days, having previously played Gareth Taylor’s side in the Barclays Women’s Super League where we fell to a 2-0 defeat – a vast improvement on our reverse fixture earlier in the season.
Now, with a third meeting on the cards against City in the Continental Cup, Robert hopes to learn from our previous encounters and outlined that it still remains the early stages of his project.
“We are getting to know them and how they play,” speaking in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon. “We know how we can defend against them, and we know how we can attack against them, create goal opportunities and I think the last game was quite an even game.
“So, hopefully, we can shape up a little bit and be calm on the ball, try to press them more and give ourselves a better chance of winning this game.
“We work from day one to control games and learn a certain style of how we want to play. I see really good potential in this team and have done good stuff, but you can also see that we aren’t ready yet.
“Other top sides in this league have worked together for a long time and we haven’t, so we are still in that phase where we need to address some stuff but that’s part of the journey and I’m happy where we are.”
We are set to compete in three different competitions in the next three games, with Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday before Aston Villa in the WSL the following weekend, and Robert spoke about his desire to bring silverware to the supporters.
“We very much want to win trophies for the fans – no matter what trophy you win, that’s a big thing for the club. We’re going to try and compete in both. The league is probably the toughest one for us to win right now or in the near future. So, these two cups are the closest we’ll get to win trophies, so we’re going to go all in to make sure we beat Man City tomorrow.”
Supporters can watch the game live on SPURSPLAY, with tickets also on sale on the night at Brisbane Road for those who wish to come and support the team in person.
