Ben’s players to watch

“How good is it watching us win games in the 96th minute? I was delighted for Brennan Johnson after last week's winner against Brighton, delighted for Heung-Min Son, what a reception on his return. It would be amazing if we could follow that up with another win against Wolves. We didn’t give the best account of ourselves when we played them at Molineux in November, started so well, but the game slipped away. I watched a fascinating interview with Ange Postecoglou talking to Rio Ferdinand right at the start of the season and it showed the team at the end of the first half of the friendly here against Shakhtar Donetsk, not pressing, not driving forward, just running down the clock to half-time... it’s amazing thinking how far we’ve come, always looking to play, always looking to win and Brighton was a good example of that. In terms of a player to watch for Wolves, I was going to pick out Matheus Cunha, such a wonderful player and it’s such a bow for Wolves that he’s now injured. With that in mind, I’ll go for Pedro Neto, such a gifted player, dribbler, pacy, lovely left foot and him up against Micky van de Ven could be great fun. Equally, for us, it’s a blow that we’ll be without Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, both injured. I’m guessing that Emerson Royal will come in and it will be great to see him get some game time as he's been fantastic for us, particularly during that spell without Cuti Romero and Micky.”

Talking tactics with Rob

“As Ben mentioned, Spurs came out flying in that first 10, 15 minutes at Molineux earlier this season, but kind of lost their way a bit, backed off. As Ange said, and I felt this was an interesting point in his press conference, that was one of two or three occasions where the team has played for a result, tried to hold on for a 1-0 win, but ended up conceding two goals in added time. Look, there were mitigating circumstances to that defeat, the first match post-Chelsea, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Cuti Romero all out, and not forgetting that Richarlison also underwent surgery that week. Perhaps it’s understandable that day, as Ange described, the team just ran out of fumes. Looking at Wolves, they’ve been playing three at the back of late and you just have to look at the numbers to see they are a huge goal threat. They are having their best-ever goalscoring season at this stage of a campaign and that’s largely down to two players in attack – Matheus Cunha, who Ben mentioned, is a massive absentee. He’s out with a hamstring injury. He’s such a key part of their game in terms of running with the ball. Regardless, they do have other players who can do that. Hwang Hee-Chan is back from a calf niggle, he was also away at the Asia Cup with Sonny, and you’d imagine he’ll now start in that front three. Pedro Neto looks a threat in every day and Pablo Sarabia scored and assisted against Spurs back in November. Maybe they’re not getting enough credit – they’re two points behind Chelsea and three adrift of much-praised Brighton. In terms of Spurs, obviously losing Porro and Udogie is a blow, and two months ago, that would be a real problem, but looking at the options Ange has now, I wonder if we could see the pair who were playing as centre-backs together for a long run in the side now back in their regular positions, Ben Davies at left-back and Emerson Royal on the right. I can also see other tweaks, and Ange still has a strong bench to call on, especially in midfield and attack. I think what the Brighton game highlighted was something Spurs have maybe missed due to the injuries and absentees - how substitutes can just keep driving right until the end, and it was Son and Brennan Johnson who broke clear to score the winning goal. It’s great to have those options.”
