Local students invited for life skills workshop at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Wed 29 March 2023, 16:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Today, students from across London took part in a series of educational and life skills workshops at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of the Premier League Inspires Programme.

Over 80 young people from Highgate Wood School, St. Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls, East Barnet School, and Enfield Grammar School all took part in a range of activities designed to help build confidence, mental resilience, and teamwork.

Premier League Inspires is a 10-week educational programme delivered by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, aimed at inspiring and motivating young people aged 11-16 using the theme of football and sport to improve their attitude, relationships, and behaviour.

The students began their day by taking part in an impressionable minds workshop, which focuses on encouraging students to use their confidence as a life skill when they are faced with challenging situations in their everyday lives.

Afterwards, the students took part in a first aid session delivered by Direct Action Training. First aid training provides children with a vital knowledge base for dealing with any medical emergencies they may be faced with. It also improves their understanding of health issues and how to care for themselves, developing self-confidence and self-esteem.

After the workshops, the schools had the chance to experience a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium - following in the footsteps of our players, the students were able to explore the first team changing rooms, tunnel and pitchside areas.

To end the day, the students enjoyed a surprise zoom call with special guest Club Ambassador and Academy coach Jermain Defoe. The students were able to ask Jermain questions including what challenges he has faced in his career and how he has overcome them, who his inspiration was growing up, how he himself has shown resilience and what advice he would give to them at school.

Myri Demetriou, Senior Education Lead at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: "Today's event was a great opportunity for students to come together, have fun, learn new skills, and celebrate completing their programme. All the participants have done an incredible job and have really challenged and applied themselves over the past ten weeks – they should all be very proud of themselves."

Premier League Inspires forms part of the wider work delivered by the Club and its Foundation to create life-changing opportunities and experiences for young people across its community.

Our Foundation delivers Premier League Primary Stars - a six-week programme supporting the delivery of physical education whilst encouraging students to engage in Maths and English - and Premier League Kicks, which aims to help young people reach their potential through free weekly football sessions and educational workshops, helping to create stronger, safer, and more inclusive communities.
