Eric on 'very assuring presence' Fraser

Tue 14 March 2023, 17:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Dier has lauded Fraser Forster as 'a very assuring presence' after the goalkeeper's recent string of commanding performances.

Following a knee injury to our captain Hugo Lloris picked up in last month's 1-0 win over Manchester City, Fraser has deputised for our number one, playing every minute available since, and has more than stepped up to the mark.

After clean sheets earned in our 2-0 wins over West Ham and Chelsea, as well as in our Champions League round of 16 second leg 0-0 draw with Milan, the England international then played a literal big hand in Saturday's 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest, making a smart save to somehow tip over former player Serge Aurier’s 76th-minute header before keeping out a stoppage-time penalty to deny Andre Ayew a late consolation.

Despite the pressure that comes with his task between the sticks, the 34-year-old stopper has not shied away from the job at hand, excelling as he has shown all of his experience when we have needed him most - and that is something Eric has been quick to praise.

“It was important to see out the game, and Fraser helped us with that,” said Eric. “He’s come in and it’s never easy to come in and play as a second-choice goalkeeper, not knowing what will happen. It comes out of nowhere, and then you’re in every game.

“He’s made a lot of great saves recently. He’s got a lot of experience and he’s a very assuring presence back there. I’m really happy for him.”
