Birthday boy Kyerematen salvages draw for Young Lions

Fri 09 June 2023, 16:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Rio Kyerematen scored a late equaliser as England men’s Under-18s turned around a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Norway on Friday.

Representing the Young Lions at the International Tournament of Lisbon, the midfielder carried on his fine form in Lilywhite last season when he came off the bench to salvage a point in England’s tournament opener in Portugal.

After conceding a goal either side of half-time, Neil Ryan’s young side had work to do in the second half but halved the deficit through Millwall’s Romain Esse with 30 minutes remaining. With time running out against a stubborn Norwegian side, substitute Kyerematen fired home a fierce shot to draw level two minutes into stoppage time on what was his 18th birthday.

It’s another important goal scored by the youngster, who played a key role in our Under-18 Premier League Cup winning side last term, scoring an 89th-minute winner in the semi-final before a stunning brace in the final against Aston Villa.

England face Australia in their second game on Sunday morning (11am BST) before they play tournament hosts Portugal in their final match on Tuesday (5pm BST).
